Just like that, 2018 is gone! The year we got married. The year we bought and moved into our first home. What a year it was…one we will never forget!
Since the start of our home search a year and a half ago, I always dreamed of decorating our home for Christmas. I love Christmas, Christmas trees, the twinkling lights, Christmas music, cookies, gift giving…all of the holiday magic. When we were strongly considering certain homes, I would think, “where would we put the Christmas tree if we lived here?” So needless to say, we were prepared when it was time to officially start decorating!
First things first: the Christmas tree! After living in a small apartment for years together and having an artificial tree, we wanted to go all out this year and chop down our own living Christmas tree. We went to Stumpf’s Tree Farm on a blistery morning and wandered aimlessly around the farm until we decided on the perfect tree.
We got fresh pine branches and made garland to hang around our kitchen window and on top of bookshelves (the smell was heavenly!). Twinkle lights were strung everywhere for a gentle holiday glow.
A few years ago I started making gingerbread cookies and have made it a tradition now. They pair nicely with my mom’s sugar cookies and Scottish shortbread.
I loved how cozy our living room was and one of my favorite things about Christmas is the glow and warmth of the Christmas tree. It makes the long dark nights not so bad. So many nights we just turned on some tunes, poured a drink, and sat in that Christmas glow with some candles lit. We are so happy to be owning a home and this first holiday season was a success. We can’t wait to continue making memories in this home and start making our own traditions.
