September 8th, 2018: our wedding day. It was hands down the best. day. of. our. lives…! The weather, the venue, the people, the vendors…the LOVE. It was an unforgettable day and we have only positive things to say about it.
We got engaged in Iceland in June of 2016 and have been dreaming of this day ever since. We loved every minute of having a long engagement! We were able to take our time in selecting our vendors and making sure the overall vibe we wanted for the day was just right. While we know many people who successfully planned a wedding in less than a year, we preferred the long engagement to enjoy the moments of planning.
I (Jessica) started the day feeling as calm as could be. No nerves, no anxiety, just relaxed and excited as I could be to see Alex and become husband and wife. My ladies, mom, and I got ready in The Iron Horse Hotel all morning and headed to our venue, The Farm at Dover, midday. Alex was equally relaxed being in the comforts of our own home that morning before heading to our venue.
We arrived, my gals and family set up the decor in the barn, and we took our time getting ready. The girls had the luxury of the beautiful pink barn house, and the guys in the vintage renovated cabin on the property.
Before we knew it, it was time for our first look! Since touring the property, we knew we wanted it to be in the field on the edge of the barn’s property. The day ended up being beautiful, so our first look was sunny, slightly breezy, and we had butterflies flying in the field surrounding us. It was absolutely magical, but not as magical as Alex’s reaction to seeing me. I will never forget that loving moment, the way he looked at me, the happy tears. It’s so important to have those private moments on your wedding day! This is one of the reasons why we wanted to do a private first look before the ceremony, to see each other for the first time without anyone (minus the photographers) around us.
From there, we had more photos with each other, our family, and our rockstar wedding party. It was then time to be whisked away to make this whole thing official at the ceremony! Our ceremony was tucked back in the woods on the property beneath a canopy of trees. We wrote our own vows and hand picked our readings with our reverend. We didn’t know each other’s vows until that moment and it made the ceremony even more special.
Then it was party time! And my, was it a GOOD time. The food, the cake, the drinks, the decor in our reception space, our amazing DJ, the late night donuts…it all came together perfectly and was one heck of a fun time. We danced the night away, feeling the love all around us.
Cheers to a long, happy life together as Mr. and Mrs. Slocum! #HoorayAxJ
